10ZiG Manager v5.5 boosts scale for large deployments
10ZiG has released version 5.5 of 10ZiG Manager, its software for managing thin client endpoints, with changes aimed at larger deployments and faster administration.
The update targets organisations running hundreds to many thousands of endpoints, including environments split across multiple configuration and management groups. These setups can increase load on servers and databases during routine operations.
10ZiG Manager is used to manage thin and zero clients in virtual desktop and cloud desktop environments, and it also supports web application use cases. 10ZiG supplies both endpoint devices and management software.
"Version 5.5 is one of the most important releases we've delivered for 10ZiG Manager," said Kevin Greenway, CTO of 10ZiG Technology. "It directly addresses the needs of customers managing very large, very dynamic environments spanning extensive configuration groups, while ensuring 10ZiG Manager continues to scale alongside their business."
Server changes
Version 5.5 includes an architectural overhaul of the 10ZiG Manager server and related services. 10ZiG highlighted reductions in CPU and memory consumption, which can help teams running the platform on shared infrastructure or expanding capacity without adding new servers.
The release also introduces a new queuing approach for client check-ins. Check-ins can spike when devices reboot at the same time or when administrators push updates across a fleet. 10ZiG said the queuing system improves reliability during peak activity such as mass reboots, firmware updates, and large configuration changes.
Thin client estates can create operational challenges because endpoints often sit outside the traditional Windows desktop management model and rely on centralised configuration. That increases the importance of the management server during security updates, policy changes, and other large-scale events.
Web console update
10ZiG also updated the 10ZiG Manager Web Console, which administrators use to view device inventories and apply policies. The main change is pagination support, aimed at keeping large lists responsive by reducing the amount of data the browser loads and renders at once.
10ZiG positioned pagination as a way to maintain performance when managing large inventories, policies, and groups. The update also reflects a focus on day-to-day workflow, as thin client estates may require frequent policy tuning when organisations adjust application delivery or session settings.
Database layer
The release includes updates to database components used by the platform. 10ZiG said version 5.5 uses a newer version of MySQL and updates several dependencies, including the MySQL connector and Bouncy Castle.
It also adds MySQL stored procedures intended to reduce calls between the database and the Manager service. As device counts grow, frequent database back-and-forth can become a bottleneck, particularly when each device action triggers multiple reads and writes. 10ZiG said the change improves throughput and reduces latency.
The focus on database calls and service overhead suggests 10ZiG is addressing scaling limits that can appear at higher device counts. These issues often surface during maintenance windows, when administrators push changes across entire groups and many endpoints report back to confirm status.
Commercial Positioning
10ZiG said 10ZiG Manager remains free for new and existing customers, and that customers can use version 5.5 without additional licensing costs, migrations, or feature tiers. This approach differs from some endpoint management tools that charge by device count or segment features across editions.
In the thin client market, management software can influence purchasing decisions because devices are often deployed as standardised fleets. Buyers typically weigh the ease of updates, policy enforcement, and inventory visibility, along with vendor support and compatibility with virtual desktop platforms.
10ZiG works across VDI, DaaS, and web-based environments, with support for connection brokers including Omnissa, Microsoft, and Citrix. It also sells a range of endpoint form factors, including traditional desktops, laptops, and all-in-one devices.
