Genetec has received First-Level Security Certification from the French National Cybersecurity Agency for its Synergis access control system. The certification covers a system used in access control and broader physical security environments.
It has also been qualified by ANSSI as what it describes as a high-assurance access control system, which Genetec says makes it the only access control vendor to hold that qualification. The qualification followed its CSPN certification and applies to Security Centre Synergis, Synergis Cloud Link and an STid secure I/O module built for that architecture.
The scope also includes STid SSCP v2 readers operating in transparent mode, along with MIFARE DESFire EV2 and EV3 smart cards. In practice, the qualification extends beyond software to a defined set of connected hardware used within the same system design.
French benchmark
ANSSI is France's national cybersecurity agency, and its certification and qualification processes are used as benchmarks for products deployed in sensitive settings. Genetec says the latest decision attests to the robustness of its access control products and their ability to meet high-trust cybersecurity requirements.
The distinction matters because qualification goes beyond point-in-time certification. According to Genetec, it requires broader testing and auditing, as well as an ongoing commitment to maintain compliance with ANSSI requirements.
That places the assessment in a different category from standard product certification. For buyers in regulated sectors and operators of critical sites, such processes can influence procurement decisions for both digital and physical security systems.
In France, the qualification is relevant for Operators of Vital Importance, including organisations in healthcare, airports and energy. These entities face strict national requirements around resilience and system assurance as cyber and physical risks increasingly overlap.
Wider implications
Outside France, the ANSSI process is likely to be watched as a reference point by European buyers assessing the security posture of access control systems. Public sector bodies and operators of critical infrastructure face growing scrutiny over supply chain risks, software assurance and the resilience of connected devices installed in buildings and facilities.
Access control has become part of that debate because door controllers, readers, credentials and management software now sit in networked environments that can create cyber exposure if they are poorly designed or maintained. As a result, physical security suppliers are under increasing pressure to show their systems can withstand technical attack as well as perform their core operational role.
Genetec says the ANSSI qualification complements other certifications and attestations it has secured, including ISO 27001, ISO 27017, IRAP, Essential 8, TX-RAMP, FICAM/FIPS 201-2, DHS Safety Act, UL 2900-2-3 Level 3, CAPSS and SOC 2 Type II. It also says its products comply with GDPR and NIS2 requirements.
Those broader references underline how vendors in the sector are increasingly judged against a patchwork of national and international frameworks. Buyers are also looking more closely at whether system components, not just headline software platforms, have been assessed in combination.
Cyrille Becker, Managing Director, Genetec EMEA, commented on the development. "Genetec is recognized globally for its cybersecure solutions, underscoring our position as the trusted solution of choice in the physical security industry," Becker said.
He added: "Achieving ANSSI qualification further demonstrates our ability to meet the most stringent cybersecurity standards and our long-term commitment to helping customers safeguard their environments."
Becker also drew a distinction between the system's role in building access and its place in cyber defence. "For users, this distinction is critical," he said. "It ensures systems go beyond managing access points to serve as a first line of defense against cyber threats. Organisations in France, and across Europe, seeking a highly secure access control system can confidently rely on Genetec, knowing this qualification demonstrates our ability to meet the highest cybersecurity standards."
The qualified products are sold through Genetec-accredited channel partners.
