Nasuni buys Resilio to boost edge file access speed
Nasuni has acquired file synchronisation specialist Resilio, broadening its approach to distributing and accessing shared files across dispersed workforces.
The deal brings Resilio's synchronisation and edge caching technology into the Nasuni File Data Platform. Nasuni says the combination will improve file access for staff working across multiple offices, remote sites, and hybrid locations, while reducing reliance on VPN-based access and separate tools.
Nasuni and Resilio have begun a phased integration of teams, technology, and operations. Both say existing customers and partners should continue to receive the same level of service and support during the transition.
Nasuni sells cloud-based file services and management software for unstructured data. Resilio focuses on moving and synchronising files across locations, with an emphasis on performance in bandwidth-constrained environments.
File access focus
Resilio is known for synchronisation and caching methods that keep data available locally while staying aligned with central content stores. Nasuni says these capabilities will complement its cloud-native file services, helping staff access shared files quickly across geographies, including at sites with limited bandwidth.
Large organisations often rely on a mix of NAS systems, file servers, and cloud storage. Many also use VPNs for remote access or separate synchronisation products for mobile and distributed teams. Nasuni argues that a combined platform can reduce fragmentation in how staff find and work on shared content.
The acquisition also reflects demand for tighter governance of distributed data. IT teams are under pressure to maintain central control over file access policies, security controls, and compliance requirements while supporting remote work and regional offices.
"We're excited to welcome the Resilio team to Nasuni," said Sam King, Chief Executive Officer, Nasuni. "Our customers already rely on Nasuni to manage, protect, and activate their enterprise file data on a global scale. With Resilio, we're extending our platform to help improve enterprise productivity while continuing to simplify operations and protect IT environments."
Edge and orchestration
The acquisition also creates opportunities around high-speed data transfer and what Nasuni calls orchestration across locations. A key focus is remote sites with limited bandwidth, where local caching and synchronisation can reduce the amount of data that must traverse wide-area networks for common tasks.
Resilio sells into sectors that handle large files and data-heavy workflows, including architecture and engineering, media and entertainment, and financial services. These industries often manage large design files, video assets, and analytics datasets, which can create performance and latency issues when accessed from multiple sites.
"We're proud of what the Resilio team has built, and joining Nasuni represents an exciting next step for our employees and customers," said Eric Klinker, Chief Executive Officer, Resilio. "Together, we expect to help organisations collaborate more effectively on mission-critical content, regardless of location."
Nasuni also linked the acquisition to analytics and artificial intelligence initiatives, where organisations want faster access to data stored across different environments.
Part of that involves caching and distribution at the edge, placing data closer to the teams and systems that need it. Another is managing access through consistent policies as data moves between cloud storage and on-premises locations.
"Resilio complements our strategy for the Nasuni File Data Platform, further strengthening our leadership in high-speed data access, distribution, and intelligent caching at the edge," said Nick Burling, Chief Product Officer, Nasuni. "By accelerating how distributed data is accessed and made available across environments, we're helping customers more efficiently power AI and analytics initiatives - ensuring teams can securely leverage the right data, in the right place, at the right time to drive better insights and outcomes."
Next steps
Nasuni says it will share additional updates in the coming weeks as it continues work on its platform strategy and integration programme.
