OpenAI has appointed Dali Rajic as Chief Revenue Officer to lead its global revenue organisation.

He joins as OpenAI's products reach more than one billion weekly active users and more than two million businesses, double the number a year ago.

The appointment comes amid a leadership transition in OpenAI's commercial team. Denise Dresser, who helped build the company's revenue function, will leave after a transition period. In the meantime, she will continue working with the business team to support customers.

Dresser played a central role during a period of rapid growth for OpenAI and the wider market for business use of artificial intelligence. She helped build the team, strengthen ties with major customers and establish the business's commercial foundation.

Rajic takes the role after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer at Wiz, the cybersecurity company recently acquired by Google. There, he helped establish operating discipline and customer execution during a period of rapid growth.

Before that, he was President and Chief Operating Officer at Zscaler. He also served as Chief Customer and Revenue Officer at AppDynamics.

Commercial shift

The move marks a new stage in OpenAI's push to expand its commercial operations as adoption of its tools grows among companies as well as consumers. OpenAI has also formed a strategic partnership with Chad Peets and RPT Partners to support efforts to build its go-to-market team.

OpenAI described the next phase of its business as one in which newer AI models will reshape not only work processes but also the way companies are structured and managed. In that context, Rajic has been brought in to build what OpenAI called the revenue operating system for its next stage of scale.

OpenAI has become one of the most closely watched businesses in artificial intelligence, combining research, products, deployment and infrastructure under one organisation. Its commercial reach now spans a broad base of businesses, while its consumer products have achieved mass adoption.

In a brief statement, OpenAI's leadership outlined the rationale for the appointment.

"We're moving into a compute-powered economy, with AI becoming embedded in every workflow. Denise has led our revenue organisation through a formative period for the business and has worked tirelessly to get the team to where it is today. The way we're deploying this technology is changing rapidly, and Dali will turn what we've learned into repeatable execution as we build out the full system to make AI broadly useful for people and businesses," said Greg Brockman, President and Co-Founder of OpenAI.

Rajic also commented on the move.

"OpenAI has extraordinary technology, products that more than one billion people already love, and enormous market pull. I'm excited to join the team, build on the momentum already in place, and lead the revenue organisation as we help customers realise the full value of AI," said Rajic.

The hire puts an experienced software sales executive at the centre of OpenAI's commercial expansion as the company works to manage a growing business customer base and turn demand into a more structured global revenue operation.

According to OpenAI, more than two million businesses now use its products, giving the new Chief Revenue Officer a large installed base to manage from the outset.
