Percona names Kyle Davis to lead Redis & Valkey push

Tue, 10th Mar 2026

Percona has appointed Kyle Davis as General Manager, Redis/Valkey Ecosystem, putting an open source and developer advocacy specialist in charge of its work around the two in-memory database projects.

Davis will lead Percona's Redis and Valkey offerings and set strategy for related software, support, and services. The role spans the company's commercial work around Redis and the community-led Valkey fork, created as an alternative for users of Redis OSS.

The appointment comes as the market reassesses vendor support and licensing options for popular database software. Percona has positioned itself as a services provider across multiple open source database technologies, with support contracts and operational advice as core lines of business.

Background

Davis most recently worked at Amazon Web Services on its open source strategy team for Valkey. His remit included AWS's approach to the Redis alternative and its engagement with the surrounding community.

Before AWS, he was Head of Developer Advocacy at Redis, leading programmes focused on education and engagement for the global Redis developer community.

Percona described the hire as bringing product knowledge and community experience across both database ecosystems.

"Kyle's appointment brings deep product and community expertise that will elevate how we support Redis and Valkey users," said Peter Farkas, CEO of Percona.

Farkas linked the appointment to a broader roadmap around open source database operations and developer tooling.

"His leadership will strengthen our open source offerings, improve the developer experience, and ensure our customers have a clear path forward in further developing their critical database infrastructure," he said.

Redis and Valkey

Redis is widely used as an in-memory data store for caching, messaging, and real-time workloads. Many organisations run it as a core component in web and application stacks to reduce load on primary databases and improve response times.

Valkey is an open source project that maintains a compatible interface and operational model for teams built around Redis OSS. It has attracted interest from companies and developers seeking continuity in open source governance and release processes.

The hire also comes as service providers and systems integrators increase their focus on migration planning, operational support, and long-term maintenance for customers weighing options between Redis distributions and Valkey.

Percona's services

The appointment builds on Percona's prior investment in Redis and Valkey. The company introduced enterprise support for Valkey in early 2025 and rolled out migration services for organisations moving from Redis OSS to Valkey.

These offerings sit alongside Percona's wider database portfolio of managed support for open source systems used in production. That work often includes performance tuning, security updates, high-availability design, incident response, and operational guidance.

Percona positioned its approach for customers running mixed estates, where teams may standardise on different technologies for caching and data management. It also signalled expectations of demand from organisations that want support options without committing to a single vendor distribution.

Leadership focus

Davis said he joined because of Percona's stance on open source and community engagement, and pointed to his experience across both ecosystems.

"I joined Percona because I have long admired its unwavering dedication to open source and its communities," said Kyle Davis, General Manager, Redis/Valkey Ecosystem, Percona.

"Having worked with Redis for many years and with Valkey from its inception, I'm excited to lead Percona's Redis and Valkey initiatives. I look forward to helping our customers and community navigate the evolving ecosystem and achieve success with these technologies," he said.

In the near term, the remit suggests further work on support packaging, migration playbooks, and operational tooling for both Redis and Valkey deployments. Davis will be responsible for aligning Percona's services and product direction with changes in the two upstream projects.
