Targa Telematics has appointed Marco Amendolagine as Head of Business Development Insurance, expanding its insurance leadership team in Italy.

He will lead the next stage of the company's insurance business, developing new commercial opportunities and strengthening ties with insurance and insurtech groups. His remit also includes supporting the company's position in its home market while contributing to wider international expansion.

The appointment comes as Targa Telematics looks to build on its position in telematics-based insurance services. Its platform combines data from OEM devices, proprietary systems, smartphones and smart tags, alongside managed services including an operations centre and customer care.

Amendolagine brings more than 18 years of international experience across insurtech, telematics and digital innovation. With a background in industrial and mechanical engineering, he has worked in business development, product strategy and digital transformation across European, North American and Asian markets.

The group operates in connected mobility and telematics, serving sectors including insurance, fleet management and vehicle rental. It also works in asset management, remote vehicle diagnostics and telemetry, including for professional, construction site and airport vehicles.

Insurance push

The insurance segment has become a key focus for telematics providers as insurers make greater use of driver and vehicle data in underwriting and fleet policies. For companies in the sector, senior commercial hires can deepen relationships with insurers and brokers while opening access to new distribution partners in national markets.

Targa Telematics says its modular platform is designed to adapt to customer requirements across the insurance market. It operates in several European countries, including Italy, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and Romania, as well as Chile.

Massimiliano Balbo di Vinadio, Vice President Sales L.A. at Targa Telematics, highlighted the company's insurance credentials by pointing to recent market recognition.

"Targa Telematics ranked first in the European category of fleet Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) providers in the latest UBI Global Study published by PTOLEMUS Consulting Group. This is the most comprehensive report of the global connected auto insurance market," said Massimiliano Balbo di Vinadio, Vice President Sales L.A. at Targa Telematics.

He also pointed to another industry award received this year.

"This achievement builds on the Frost & Sullivan Europe Competitive Strategy Leadership Recognition we received in 2026, which highlighted our offering in fleet management and telematics insurance. These results are testament to the strength and potential of our technology. We are confident that, thanks to his extensive experience in and in-depth knowledge of the insurance market, Marco Amendolagine will play a pivotal role in driving business growth, helping to further expand commercial opportunities and strengthen our footprint," said Balbo di Vinadio.

Targa Telematics describes itself as a European player in AIoT and connected mobility. It says it has been active in telematics and mobility technology for more than 25 years, with services spanning short- and long-term rental businesses, financial groups and large fleets.

The hire suggests the company wants to sharpen its insurance focus as competition grows in telematics, fleet data and connected vehicle services.
