HCS has invested €1.45 million to launch a 24/7 managed services offering for customers in Ireland and overseas. The service will be delivered by teams in Ireland and New Zealand.

The new support model marks the next stage of HCS's managed services strategy, shifting from standard support arrangements to round-the-clock coverage. It is aimed at mid-market and larger customers seeking continuous oversight of critical IT systems and faster responses when problems emerge.

HCS is delivering the service through a follow-the-sun model, with staff in Ireland and New Zealand handing over work across time zones. The arrangement is intended to maintain continuity without relying on overnight coverage from a single location.

The operation will provide round-the-clock monitoring, triage and escalation. It will also include data protection and cyber resilience services designed to help customers detect issues earlier and reduce disruption.

According to HCS, New Zealand was chosen for the international element of the model because of its time zone fit with Ireland, as well as its technology talent pool and cultural alignment. The New Zealand team will work with staff in Ireland to provide continuous support throughout the day.

Service shift

The investment comes as demand grows for always-on IT support among organisations that depend on digital systems for daily operations. Businesses are under increasing pressure to keep services available while responding quickly to cyber threats, outages and other incidents that can disrupt customer-facing and internal systems.

The launch is the first phase of a broader plan to strengthen customer support and service delivery. HCS has not detailed the later phases, but said the programme is intended to respond to changing customer requirements across managed IT services.

Finn Grant, Head of Service Delivery, HCS, outlined the company's view of the change in support operations.

“The launch of HCS's new follow-the-sun service is a fundamental shift in how we support our customers. HCS's investment in advanced technologies, coupled with specialist technical expertise, ensures that our teams can identify potential problems and respond earlier to reduce customer impact where issues arise. This capability supports greater service continuity for our customers, helping to reduce operational disruption and improve resilience across critical IT services. Through our integrated support teams in Ireland and New Zealand, we provide 24/7 coverage to enable earlier intervention, clearer escalation and a stronger response capability for customers,” said Grant.

Company background

HCS is an Irish managed services and digital transformation provider headquartered in Waterford, with bases in Dublin and Cork. The business says it has more than three decades of experience supporting Irish organisations with managed IT and cybersecurity services.

Ownership of the company changed in late 2024 when HCS was acquired by Centric360. The investment company is jointly owned by Pamela Farrell and Brian Larkin.

The latest spending reflects a wider trend among technology service providers to expand support coverage beyond traditional office hours. For customers operating across multiple markets, service outages can have financial and reputational effects, particularly where systems underpin customer transactions, communications or regulated processes.

Pamela Farrell, Chief Executive Officer, HCS, said the investment was designed to address those risks for customers.

“Our customers depend on technology to deliver core services and continuous business operations. When technology disruption occurs, the impact can be financial, operational and reputational. At HCS, this investment is about helping customers reduce that risk. Through the launch of our follow-the-sun service, our customers can have greater confidence that HCS will detect, assess and respond to service impacting issues as they emerge. This is central to our customer experience model, ensuring that customers are confident and reassured their IT environment remains continuously protected, actively managed and operationally resilient. This is the first step in a multi-phase strategy that will further strengthen HCS's capabilities and continue to meet the evolving needs of our existing customers across the IT services spectrum,” said Farrell.
