IGEL has appointed Randy Resnick as Field CTO, Government and Critical Industries, bringing a former US Department of Defence Zero Trust leader into the software company.

Resnick joins from the Department of Defence Zero Trust Portfolio Management Office, where he led efforts to develop and implement Zero Trust policies across the department's technology estate. He also wrote the original Department of Defence Zero Trust Strategy and helped develop related reference architectures, a maturity model, innovation labs and assessment approaches.

Earlier, he spent more than 34 years at the National Security Agency in senior technical roles, including Zero Trust Strategic Lead, Cybersecurity Innovations Director, Chief of Information Assurance Engineering and the first Chief of the NSA Red Team.

At IGEL, Resnick will work with customers and the company's product, engineering, partner and commercial teams. His remit covers government and critical industries, helping translate requirements from those sectors into repeatable elements of its platform.

The appointment is part of IGEL's push around its Adaptive Secure Endpoint Platform, aimed at managing security, policy and governance at the enterprise edge across IT, operational technology, cloud environments, applications, containers and AI-related workloads.

Government focus

Resnick's background is closely tied to US national security cyber policy. In his most recent public sector role, he worked on operationalising Zero Trust in what IGEL described as one of the world's largest and most complex technology environments.

His new role will also extend internationally across NATO and Five Eyes countries, as well as Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the Middle East. IGEL sees demand in sectors including financial services, healthcare, transportation, energy and utilities.

Klaus Oestermann, Chief Executive Officer at IGEL, said Resnick's value lies in linking strategy with implementation. "Randy is recognized internationally for his leadership in Zero Trust, but what makes him particularly important as an advisor to IGEL customers and partners is his ability to take transformational cybersecurity concepts from strategy and architecture through program development and operational implementation," Oestermann said.

"That combination of technical vision, leadership and execution is exceptionally well aligned with the next phase of market adoption of the IGEL Adaptive Secure Endpoint Platform(tm)," he added.

Platform strategy

IGEL positions its platform around endpoint security and controlled access across cloud, virtual desktop infrastructure, desktop as a service, software as a service, secure browsers, enterprise applications and operational technology endpoints. The underlying operating system is immutable and designed to reduce the attack surface on endpoints while maintaining a known-good state, according to the company.

In practical terms, Resnick's appointment gives IGEL a senior figure with direct experience building Zero Trust frameworks inside the US defence establishment. That is relevant as software suppliers seek to adapt public sector security models for commercial organisations facing tighter scrutiny over cyber resilience, governance and operational continuity.

According to IGEL, the role will also involve working with the IGEL Ready partner ecosystem across silicon, identity, networking, SASE and SSE, cloud, virtualisation and AI. The work is intended to support areas such as identity, segmentation, comply-to-connect, workload isolation, contextual policy, observability, resilience and governance.

Resnick framed the move as a way to apply government security lessons more widely. "IASEP(tm) gives us the opportunity to apply these lessons more broadly and securely to the enterprise edge, bringing together trust, resilience, and governance across IT, OT, and emerging workloads in an architecture that organizations can easily operationalize at a scale of their choosing," he said.

John Walsh, Senior Vice President and Field CTO, Government and Critical Industries at IGEL, also commented on the appointment and his experience working with Resnick in government security circles. "Having known Randy for many years through his work at the NSA and later watching him lead the strategic development and implementation of Zero Trust within the Department of Defence, I am extremely confident in Randy's technical leadership, program discipline, and ability to turn transformational ideas into operational capability at extraordinary scale," Walsh said.

The hire adds another senior public sector cybersecurity figure to the private sector market for endpoint and Zero Trust software, where vendors are trying to tie policy controls, governance evidence and resilience measures more closely to end-user devices and distributed workloads.
